Billboard Hot 100 – Historical Artist Concentration

The historical artist concentration metric creates a Herfindahl Index based on the “market shares” of each artist currently on the Billboard Hot 100. (“Market share” in this context is the number of songs an artist has divided by the number in the Hot 100, i.e. 100). Numbers closer to 1 indicate higher concentration and numbers closer to 0 indicate lower concentration.
