Somebody Is Taking My “Macroeconomics As Religion” Joke Way Too Far…

Yeah, so this happened, and I figured it was appropriate for a Sunday:

Seriously, what???!! (I can’t help but notice that it’s “Rev. Dr. Bob Wallace,” which may be at least a partial explanation.) My mother sent me this picture, and she informed me that she saw this while she and my father were fishing somewhere near Fort Meyers, Florida…so, like the “real” part of Florida, not the Cuba/DR/New york hybrid that is South Florida. She promised that she is trying to get a copy of the sermon and keep me posted. Interestingly enough, this is not the first instance of this that I’ve seen, just the most obvious. Perhaps this is the lesson that’s being taught.

Update: Reader Mark suggests this book as a potential explanation.

It’s probably more likely that the liturgical readings across Christianity today are from Luke 16: 1-9, which is the Parable of the Dishonest Manager. This section Christ deals a lot with worldly vs. heavenly wealth.

I don’t know how many churches with “Community Church” in the name follow the “liturgical readings across Christianity.” Not many, I’d wager.
