After posting Dan Pink’s TED talk yesterday, Jarret sends me the following:
http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pjGlYH-8AK8ffDa6o2bYlXg
along with the text “Not to be confused with the real TED spread…”
I couldn’t help but giggle. First, the spreadsheet is a catalog of every TED talk along with topic area, date, summary, etc. You could theoretically copy the spreadsheet and use it as a checklist to get your nerd on in a very organized fashion. (If you are unclear as to what TED is, click here. Basically, TED is a nonprofit dedicated to what it calls “ideas worth spreading.”) Second, I was impressed that Jarret made such an esoteric but entirely appropriate play on words. (The TED spread is a particular interest rate spread that even I have only vaguely heard of previously. Jarret:1; Econgirl:0)
If you are not a fan of TED talks, you should be. Here are some testimonies, via my Facebook friends:
- “omg someone else who’s heard of TED talks? i LIVE for those things. check this one out: http://www.ted.com/talks/lang/eng/vilayanur_ramachandran_on_your_mind.html” S.C., Newton, MA
- “yeah - they’re fantastic. 20 minute bus ride = get your learn on.” C.C, San Francisco, CA
Now if those aren’t ringing endorsements, I don’t know what is…

When I first found myself having to explain TED Talks to friends of mine, I had to describe it as “It’s like porn, but for your brain”.
It’s kind of the most amazing site ever (although none of my close friends agree for some reason… pffft, non-nerds)
